I graduated with a Masters in Social Work from Viriginia Commonwealth University in 1996. In 2000, I received my license to practice social work. Since graduation I have worked in a variety of settings to include, hospitals both medical and psychiatric, residential for adolescents, partial hospitalization, and school based. These settings have provided a wealth of information and experience that I bring forth in my current practice of 12 years
My leisure activities include running, biking, yoga, and crafts. My dog Tucker comes with me to work everyday.
I provide counseling for children ages eight and above, adolescents, and adults. My work with children involves both play and family therapy. Children encounter their world at an experiential rather than cognitive level. Play is their medium of expressing their experiences as well as their feelings about themselves. My office contains a variety of toys, games and objects that enables them to address behavioral, academic, peer, and family issues. Family therapy is provided in conjunction with play, to address family dynamics that can assist with understanding and practicing healthy ways of coping. In addition, as a former school based clinician, I participated in many meetings to advocate for social and academic needs. I can help you navigate the system to help your child be more successful in school.
Adolescence is a challenging and exciting time. I have many years of experience treating this tumultuous stage. I enjoy working with this population, listening to the challenges they face while helping them make healthier choices for themselves.
Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions are held with both couples and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship.
